Off The Rails, Byron Bay were recently featured in the Byron Shire Sustainability Newsletter, highlighting our finalist position in the 2022 Northern Rivers Business Awards, in the category of ‘Excellence in Sustainability’. We are incredibly proud of this awards achievement, and to be featured in local sustainability news.

“Off The Rails is a Byron Bay based retailer and supplier of reclaimed railway sleepers, founded by Julian Simpson.
With a passion for sustainability, the business works with like-minded creative people to recycle and repurpose railway-associated timber and stop it heading to landfill.
They were recognised for their work as a finalist for Excellence in Sustainability in the 2022 Northern Rivers Business Awards.”
In response to being named as a finalist in the 2022 Northern Rivers Business Awards, founder and managing director Julian Simpson stated “It’s an absolute honour to be named as a finalist in this category. I am lucky to be surrounded by incredibly talented and creative people, who all play their part in creating a sustainable future. We have a zero-waste policy, whereby nothing goes to landfill – all our materials are 100% recycled and reused. This year, we have already reached a target of reducing 2,400 tonnes of landfill, securing 31,500 railway sleepers previously destined for landfill which is equivalent to 100 semi-trailer loads”.
