Off The Rails has always welcomed the green revolution. We have carefully chosen to sell reclaimed timber as it is one of the most sustainable building materials and is known as the ultimate renewable. We have successfully carbon-proofed the business to achieve sustainable methods and practices for a greener future. Using legal, sustainable, and responsibly harvested timber over other materials reduces the dependence on fossil fuels and their consequent carbon emissions.
Using reclaimed timber as an alternative to new timber
OTR aims to look after the environment and community in which we conduct business by marketing our products and services and creating customer awareness to evoke sustainable choices and to keep up to date with the increased demands to be green. No matter why our clients and suppliers choose to integrate reclaimed timber into their space, the collective decision is actively helping to save the Earth.
Limiting landfill crowding
We save all sorts of materials from going to landfill. When mixed with other forms of waste, wood does not decompose completely and can release toxic gas, which harms the environment. Any minimisations to landfill are a benefit to the environment. This year we have already reached a target of reducing 2,400 tonnes of landfill, securing 31,500 railway sleepers destined for landfill (which is 100 semi-trailers less to landfill).
Reducing the effect on the environment
Every sale we have made has a positive impact on our environment. If more people were to reuse timber, the forests would have a chance to recover, this is a big win!
